National Prescription Drug Take-back Day

National Prescription Drug Take-back Day is a free, anonymous event where people can safely get rid of drugs and medicines they do not want or use. The goal of this event is to stop pill abuse. It is held twice a year in late April and October. It is led by the Drug Enforcement Administration and other community groups.

You will not be questioned when you return prescription drugs and medicines. Getting rid of prescription drugs that you are not using, or no longer need, helps keep everyone safe and is good for public health. Unused medicines that stay at home may lead to improper use and abuse.

The rate of pill abuse in our country is very high. People use prescription drugs in ways they are not supposed to and at rates higher than other drugs, like cocaine, hallucinogens, and heroin combined. Most of the medicines that people abuse are from family and friends.
